Summer Activity/Sports Camp will introduce you to six popular team sports, Flag Football, Ultimate Frisbee, Softball/Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, and Lacrosse. You will learn many basic skills needed to play the sports such as, how to throw a football, the different ways to throw a Frisbee, and how to handle the ball in lacrosse. Along with learning the skills, you will also learn the rules and regulations of the different sports during camp. Playing is the fastest way to learn a sport. You will play games for all five awesome sports this summer!

TECH REQUIREMENTS
(Within Classroom): Students need a recently updated laptop/computer with an updated browser and internet access. Students should arrange access to a back-up computer in case their computer “goes down” during the course. Students will need a Google account.

PREREQUISITE: Ability to read music in a minimum of one clef. Intro to Music Theory is a course to develop a student’s ability to recognize, understand, and describe the conventions and processes of the western art music tradition. The course will build a foundation of music literacy skills and then progress to include more sophisticated tasks of keys, tonality, and chord building.

Jazz music has a performance style and history distinctly different from traditional concert band.  In Summer Jazz Band, students will perform jazz music while learning about jazz style. Students will learn to write a thirty second and one minute report on a variety of school activities and then also be able to broadcast them, as well as, create a podcast for future replays. The greatest take-away for students is they will learn better communication and team building skills.

Students will learn about the key elements of creating a successful film – Directing, Screenwriting, Cinematography, Editing, Acting, Set, Special & Visual Effects, and Sound designing. We will watch examples from popular Hollywood movies that highlight each concept. After establishing the 8 key elements, students will create their own short films, which will be shared at the end of camp together. All students will actively learn the major processes of creating a film including scriptwriting, cinematography, and editing to create a successful film. The overarching outcome of this course is to effectively tell a story through the medium of film and develop a greater appreciation toward the art form. This course uses the advanced digital camera to build basic skills in students who have an interest in photography, but no prior experience. With a combination of lecture, demonstration, and hands-on exercises, this course will explore the basic photographic techniques and artistic concerns involved in making photographs. These include: camera handling, composition, effective use of light, file management, digital image manipulation and developing a photographic vision. Camera equipment will be provided. Class will be held in the H-M Graphics Computer Lab, but students will be responsible for all digital storage of media files (laptop, hard drive, USB).
